Why we love being on the road in Karnataka

Karnataka is home. While my parents arent from here, I was raised in Bangalore and so over the years, Karnataka is more home than any other Indian state. The fun of stepping out from Bangalore and heading out to different places in Karnataka is all mostly on the road for us with the kids. We love being on the road – enjoying the scenes, engaging in little conversations with the local people, stepping out for little walks etc. Here are some pics from our various road-trips …. and only of the road.

Most of the roads are really nice and the sights are usually beautiful.

And it is always fun to see the interesting ways in which people commute …

Typically, we run into beautiful fields on the road side. Always a fun time for the kids … and maybe with their cameras too. :)

Small towns and all the lovely people …little roadside family activities – we ran into this sweet family. They were right by the road, in the beautiful surrounds, peeling some corn.

Hope you enjoyed the pics. I am lagging behind in blogging about the many places that we have visited on our road trips. Hopefully, I will do it all in one burst, before we head out again.

PS: All pics here are my shots. Please do not use them without my permission. Thanks.

  1. I love Karnataka roads too. Especially South Interior Karnataka. The rolling countryside. The ups and downs. The trees that line the roads. The smiling people. And the weather. You have captured them all.

I wish I was driving somewhere, south west of Mysiore now, into the sanctuary, right now. sigh!

  2. a very nice blog Chitra…loved the monsoon drenched snaps…! your description was so down to earth…my heart did a summersault and fell down in it’s pit with nostalgia…i realised how much i miss Banagalore!

Home is where you were born and brought up…you brought back some memories :)

  4. You are backkkkk! :-)

Yes, I especially love the old houses and try to reconstruct who could live in them and why are they now dilapidated or full of life. Oh if the walls could talk. Some of the tiny houses have wonderful pillars. It is a big joke in my house, every time we go through villages and somebody sees an old house with pillars, everybody in the car goes, Oh there is Mytri’s future house. Somewhere in my future I hope that I buy an old house and renovate it to all its glory with wi-fi :-). Loved the series of pictures of people traveling in various modes of transportation. Best wishes to many more blog posts.

  5. Yes Mumbai Paused, you summed it well – all the things that I love too. I wish I were on the road now as well!
