About Me:

I am a photographer and writer based in Bangalore. I enjoy peering through the camera; and especially enjoy people, nature & travel photography. My work – My flickr stream and My Facebook photography page

I believe in capturing the moment as is so that it can be cherished forever. I love working with people and have an easy way of making them comfortable in front of the camera. As a mom, being with children comes easy to me out of experience. I do photo-shoots for the simple reason that I enjoy doing them.

For a natural, ‘capturing the moment’ kind of photo-shoot, you are welcome to contact me – chitra [@] chitra-aiyer [.] com

I do all of the following: Family – Children – Maternity – Newborns – Couples – Events/Weddings

I am a trained architect. I moved back to Bangalore with my family at the end of ’06 from California.

When I started blogging on blogger, I started out blogging our return to India (R2I) experiences. And soon, I realized that it was useful to a lot of people who were in the process of moving/considering a move/weighing their options etc. So I moved to my own site here, and I put all the r2I relevant topics under http://r2blore.chitra-aiyer.com. And I have this home page to write about other things not related to r2I.

My husband and I are in our mid thirties. We have 2 young children – aged 7 and 5. Because of the children, I have had many opportunities to interact with a lot of other parents and well, mostly the talk revolves around the children, their activities, and schools. So, one of the other things that I have covered cover under http://r2blore.chitra-aiyer.com is also about the schools in Bangalore. And when I write about schools, I write either from first hand experience or after talking to parents who have their children in the said schools. This is primarily to help out other parents who are trying to look up information about the schools they are considering.

I also write about topics that the readers ask me info on. So, if there is anything that you want to know, especially about living/moving to Bangalore, working in Bangalore, or schools in Bangalore, feel free to email me at chitra [_] aiyer @ yahoo [.] com .

I enjoy photography and you will find my pics on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/aiyerchitra . The cameras I use are the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EOS 400D. The lenses I have are the kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6), Canon EF 50MM F/1.8 II, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, Sigma EF 24-70 MM F/2.8. I use the Canon Speedlite 430EX II flashgun.

Some of the books that I have enjoyedIshmael, The Alchemist, Great expectations, Three men in a boat, Interpreter of Maladies, The Namesake, Kahlil Gibran’s, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, George Bernard Shaw’s Plays, The Bridge Across Forever, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Kite Runner, Love story, The Class, The Guide, Fountainhead, Rainmaker, The Witch of Portobello ….

Movies that I loveMatrix, 12 Angry Men, Forrest Gump, Godfather I, Fight Club, Amadeus, Fargo, O Brother where art thou?, Scent of a woman, Bonnie and Clyde, Devil’s Advocate, Hotel Rwanda, Terms of Endearment, How Green was my Valley, Everything is Illuminated, Mouna Ragam, Jaane Bhee Do Yaaron, Dr Zhivago, As good as it gets, Dogfight, Moondram Pirai, Pithamagan, Ijazat, Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me, Flavors, Bend it Like Beckham, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, The Full Monty, Big Daddy, Seven Years in Tibet, My cousin Vinny, Rainman, Paniamma, WHat’s eating Gilbert Grape, Pallavi Anupallavi, Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s, Philadelphia, Garden state, Continental Divide, Shattered Glass, Dor, many lovely Malayalam movies, Older/simpler Hindi movies starring Amol Palekar or Farooq Sheikh, and many many more …

Rajdatta, anything you want to ask? :)

  12. Thanks for your detailed r2i experience.

I’m planning R2I after being in US for 12 years. Can you suggest if it is worth carrying small kitchen appliances from US to India. i.e. toaster oven, Sumeet 110V mixer (bought at Kumud in Sunnyvale), kitchenaid food processor, braun hand blender. Not sue if get all these high quality things in India for reasonable price.

    Apreciate your response.

  13. Hi Chitra,

I checked your pics, fantastic ones, i liked everyone…of pics you posted….

Moreover i need one help could you.
You are using your name in all pics, just i want to know how to do that in photoshop could you please explain me.

    Thanks & Regards,

  14. vgmonika, welcome to my blog. You do get the said appliances here in India. I am not sure how they would compare prise-wise against the ones available in the US. My suggestion would be that if you enough space in your shipping container, then you can ship them over. However, the one issue about getting appliances from the US would be the voltage difference and of course the service concerns. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sriram, thank you very much for your kind words. I type the name out on Adobe’s photoshop using the ‘add text’ feature. :)

It ‘s been only a year since we moved here. I will be moving back home to bangalore in 2010 (academic). what are the chances of getting admissions in schools at bangalore? 24. Hello Chitra,
I came to know about your flickr and blog from my friend and colleague Niranj. Liked few articles such as “Bangalore Living”. Keep up the good work.

  25. Hey Chitra…
    Good work.
Keep it up. Like your vibrant pics and the different kinds of sets on Flickr.

  26. Chitra – I stumbled across your Blog and read a few posts. You have a clear and moving style of writing. Blog on!!!!

You are now on my Blogroll. I have attached my Blog URL. Will you add mine on yours?

My attachment to Bangalore is deep and long-standing. You may recall a double-murder in Bangalore in early Jan this year – not long after your father passed-on. Yes….I lost my parents in that tragedy.

Despite the passage of 6 months, the Bangalore Police have no clues. Our extended family – most of whom live and work in Bangalore – continue to struggle. Every day is a challenge, when we don’t yet have answers to the simple “who” and “why” questions….

My family and I live in California, in the Bay Area. My wife and I lead the typical busy Bay Area lifestyle. However, since the events from earlier this year, a small group of friends and I have been brainstorming on what we can do to help the elderly in places like Bangalore – where the 1st world has suddenly and rudely intersected a 3rd world, creating unprecedented strains on – particularly – the unsuspecting and unprepared elders.

Our plans are to “do something effective”. Anything less would be useless. We have a vision and a blue-print that looks good, has been validated by visiting elders in places like the ICC and seems to make economic and practical sense. As we start rolling out our plans in 2010 and beyond, we are convinced that we have to co-opt people like you.

Please read my Blog. It will help you get a partial, but quick, mental image of yours truly. If it strikes a sympathetic chord, please reach back. You have my email ID. I am also on LinkedIn.

    Keep on blogging!

    God Bless….

  42. Hi Chitra,
I had recently bought a Nikon Cool Pix P510 and also a 550 D.I dont find any difference between the image quality in both of them despite getting 7 MB pic size from the DSLR.I wonder how to convince myself that the DSLR beats the Nikon Cool PIX.
